Recently, our class met Jeannie, a service dog and her caretaker, Fran! The students greatly enjoyed getting to know Jeannie and how she helps kids of all ages feel more calm. We met her as a class and then broke into small groups to get a little more quality time. Having fun practicing our addition fluency with a make ten math game. Practicing our secret handshakes during a morning meeting community building activity. Meeting with a writing partner to share our personal narrative topic ideas and practice telling our stories. Student authors are working hard to add detail their stories answering the five questions (who/what/why/where/how) and describing the five senses. Some kiddos discussing the upcoming book fair! We love to see Claypit students this excited about books and reading!

Students have been working hard this month to learn our class expectations and routines. In Open Circle, we worked together as a class to create non-negotiable class rules. Then as a class, we signed a pledge to uphold them. For our monthly "Be Kind" theme, we created a goal of showcasing 100 Acts of Kindness in our classroom. The students are on a roll as they add to the list daily. We will keep adding to the list until we reach 100! October's theme is "Be Inclusive." We will begin discussion of this new theme at our All-School Meeting at the beginning of the month. We worked hard this month to begin working at our center rotation during math workshop. Students work at various independent centers to practice skills while Mrs. Tobin meets with a small group of students for direct instruction. Students loved getting to use the pattern blocks the first week of centers as we all got a chance to practice center expectations, such as getting started quickly, using a whisper voice, and working the whole time. Here are Clark and Hayden, hard at work on their book series, "The Whoopie Pie Stories."
